Art Fair VIP Lounge
When Olson Kundig asked Schuchart/Dow to help build the Thundercloud VIP Lounge for the Seattle Art Fair, we got excited. The project was an opportunity to bring a creative, great design to life with the added exhilaration of an accelerated schedule. The final result was exhaustion, relief and pride in the final outcome.
Pulling together Schuchart/Dow volunteers was the easy part. The trick was to find a place to assemble fourteen separate modules. With the help of Olson Kundig, we arranged to use shop space (and a panel saw) at Elliott Bay Woodworks where we processed more than seventy sheets of plywood.
Our own Jeremy Von Wondruzka led the effort, which involved help from many at Schuchart/Dow plus the steady work of our PE, Kinga, and our summer intern, Riley. The lounge was assembled in the nick of time. Staff of both OK and SDI worked together to make it happen. The crew from Skyway Academy helped make short work of the breakdown after the show, and the plywood panels will be put to good use by their members.
